What the module does

  • Modern till layout, the default on screens 900 px wide or more: category tabs at the top, large product grid (name at the top, price at the bottom), basket on the right at full height. The active tab takes the colour of its category.
  • “Charge 7.30 €” button at the bottom right, with the amount of the sale. It is disabled when the basket is empty, shows the remaining amount after a partial payment and becomes “New sale” once paid.
  • Keypad on demand: it opens with the calculator button, or when you tap a basket line (quantity, price, discount). Page arrows are hidden when they are of no use.
  • 4 trade looks: Grocery, Bakery, Bar-café (dark), Boutique. Or your logo colours: the dominant colour of the company logo is worked out, then darkened until it reaches a contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
  • Readable products without pictures: the name replaces the crossed-out camera, and each category has its colour, also shown on its products. Products with a picture keep it.
  • Bars and restaurants: the floor plan takes the colours of the look, each table is marked “Free” or “Occupied”. In the modern till, the bottom button becomes “Tables” when the basket is empty and once paid.
  • Payment screen in the same colours. Large total, big keys (touch screens) and high contrast options.
  • The original layout is still available: the “Classic TakePOS” setting keeps the TakePOS zones and only changes the colours.
  • Only the position and the look of the zones change. Buttons and calculations are still those of TakePOS: sales, payments, receipts and stock are recorded as before. No table, no core file modified, no outside connection.
02

Who it is for

TakePOS works well, but its screen looks dated: small boxes, a crossed-out camera on every product without a picture, half of the screen empty.

TakePOS, the Dolibarr till, takes payments well. But its screen has aged: products in small boxes, a crossed-out camera on every product without a picture, a small total, and a good part of the screen empty. Recent tills have taught sales staff something else: large tiles, the basket always in view, a big button to take payment.

The DoliStore has themes for Dolibarr, and tills that replace TakePOS. This module does something else: it keeps TakePOS and only changes its screen.

Who it is for: Grocery stores, bakeries, bars, cafés and restaurants, boutiques, and any shop that takes payments with TakePOS on a computer or a tablet.

03

What the module does not do

This section appears on all 21 module pages, without exception.

  • The modern layout needs a screen 900 px wide or more. Below that, and on the TakePOS phone screen (phone.php), the layout stays the original one: only the colours change.
  • The floor plan keeps the layout of your tables: only its look changes. It shows neither the amount nor the time of an occupied table, because TakePOS does not provide them.
  • The payment screen and the floor plan need a recent browser (Chrome or Edge 105, Safari 15.4, Firefox 121 or later). On an older browser, they keep their original look.
  • From 20 to 24 under PHP 8, TakePOS opens the floor plan on floor 0. This is a Dolibarr bug, seen with the module disabled: a room created in 19 on floor 1 looks empty after the upgrade.
  • In 20, 21 and 22, TakePOS records a partial cash payment as a full payment and closes the sale (core bug, seen without the module): the button then cannot show a remaining amount.
  • Some action button labels remain cut off (“Free-text pro…”): TakePOS already cuts them without the module.
  • Empty basket: TakePOS shows “Empty”. This is a core text, not translated in French or German.
  • The logo colour is worked out when you save the setup page: after changing the logo, save it again. Without the PHP GD extension, no colour is found and the Grocery look is used.
  • With the native TakePOS colour theme (TAKEPOS_COLOR_THEME), some colours may take precedence over those of the module: not tested.
  • Tests were run in Google Chrome. Safari and Firefox have not been tried.
  • The LNE-certified version of Dolibarr has not been tested.
04

How it works

The module changes the look of the TakePOS till screen, and only that screen: the rest of Dolibarr is unchanged.

The modern till

This is the default layout, on screens 900 px wide or more:

  • category tabs at the top; the active tab takes the colour of its category;
  • a large product grid: the name at the top, the price at the bottom, an edge in the colour of the category;
  • the basket at full height, on the right;
  • the “Charge 7.30 €” button at the bottom right, with the amount of the sale. It is disabled when the basket is empty. Once paid, it becomes “New sale”; after a partial payment, it shows the remaining amount;
  • the keypad on demand: it opens with the calculator button, or when you tap a basket line to change the quantity, the price or the discount;
  • page arrows are hidden when they are of no use.

The “Classic TakePOS” setting keeps the original TakePOS zones and only changes the colours.

The looks

Four trade looks: Grocery, Bakery, Bar-café (dark) and Boutique. Or your logo colours: when the settings are saved, the module works out the dominant colour of the company logo, then darkens it until it reaches a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 with white text.

The look dresses the till, the payment screen and the floor plan. Three options come on top: large total (readable from a distance), big keys (touch screens) and high contrast (black on white text and strong borders, for a screen in sunlight).

Products without a picture

In TakePOS, a product without a picture shows a crossed-out camera. The module replaces it with a tile showing the product name, in the colour of its category. Products with a picture keep it.

Bars and restaurants

In Bar Restaurant mode, the floor plan takes the colours of the look: tables become rounded cards marked “Free” (green edge) or “Occupied” (accent colour). Floors are switched from a pill; in edit mode, for the administrator, tables have a dotted border. In the modern till, the bottom button becomes “Tables” when the basket is empty and once paid.

What does not change

The module adds a stylesheet and a script. The TakePOS elements and their identifiers stay the same: only their position changes, and each button calls TakePOS’s own code (payment, new sale, line edit, product pages). Sales, payments, receipts and stock movements are recorded exactly as without the module.

The modern till, Grocery look: the Bakery, Bulk, Drinks, Fruit & veg and Grocery tabs, the grid of bulk products, the four-item basket on the right and the “Charge 7.30 €” button.

The same sale in the four looks: Grocery, Bakery, Bar-café and Boutique.

On a 1024 px tablet, Bar-café look: the modern layout applies from 900 px.

The Bar Restaurant floor plan: tables 1 and 4 are occupied, the others free.

The payment screen, in the colours of the look.

The same sale in the four looks: Grocery (top left), Bakery, dark Bar-café and Boutique.

Settings

The setup page is for administrators only. It opens from the module list, and its “Open the till” button shows the result. On saving, the Dolibarr stylesheet cache is renewed: reload the TakePOS screen already open on the other stations.

Security and safeguards

  • No dedicated permission: the setup page is for Dolibarr administrators only. Access to the till is still governed by Dolibarr permissions.
  • No data written apart from the settings: the module records no sale, no receipt, no table.
  • No outgoing connection: the logo colour is worked out on the server, from the logo file.
  • The style rules only target the till screen, the payment screen and the floor plan: the rest of Dolibarr is unchanged.
07

What you get

What the module writes to your installation
Database tables createdNo table. The module folder has no sql/ directory. Settings are Dolibarr constants (DOLIXHAB_…): layout, look, options, colour found in the logo.
PermissionsThe descriptor declares rights = array(): the module adds no permission. The setup page is for administrators only. The look applies to the TakePOS screen of every user of the entity; access to the till is still governed by Dolibarr permissions.
Uninstalling
  • Disable the module in SetupModules/Applications. On the next load, TakePOS gets its original look and layout back.
  • Nothing to clean up in your data: the module writes no sale, no receipt, no table.
  • The settings (DOLIXHAB_… constants) are not deleted: they are used again if you re-enable the module.
  • The module folder, dolixhabillage, to drop into htdocs/custom/ or install from the zip: a stylesheet, a script, the setup page.
  • Three languages: French (fr_FR), English (en_US) and German (de_DE).
  • A README.md and a ChangeLog.md in the module folder.
  • GPL v3 or later licence, complete and readable source code.
  • No table is added. The module has no sql/ directory.
  • What is written: the settings, as Dolibarr constants (DOLIXHAB_…) — layout, look, options, colour found in the logo.
  • No Dolibarr file is modified. No outgoing connection.
  • When disabled, the stylesheet and the script are no longer loaded: TakePOS gets its original look back on the next load. The settings stay, and are used again if you re-enable the module.

Installation

  1. Get the module from the DoliStore and download the zip file.
  2. In Dolibarr: HomeSetupModules/Applications“Deploy/install external app/module” tab, then upload the zip. Otherwise, unzip the dolixhabillage folder into htdocs/custom/.
  3. Enable “TakePOS Look” in the module list. It requires the POS TakePOS module. No table is created. With no other setting, the till switches to the modern layout, Grocery look.
  4. On the module setup page, choose the layout, the look and the options, then save. The “Open the till” button shows the result.
  5. On the stations where the TakePOS screen was already open, reload the page.

The details — permissions on the custom folder, shared hosting, upgrades, uninstalling — are on the page Installation and upgrades.

Frequently asked questions

Which Dolibarr versions does this module work on?

The descriptor requires Dolibarr 19.0 minimum and PHP 7.4 minimum. The same set of tests was run in Google Chrome on 19.0.4, 20.0.4, 21.0.4, 22.0.5, 23.0.4 and 24.0.2: complete sale up to the paid receipt in the modern and classic layouts, setup page, Bar Restaurant mode. PHP syntax was checked under 7.4.33; the tests ran under PHP 8.2. If in doubt, write before buying.

Does the module change the way TakePOS records sales?

No. It adds a stylesheet and a script to the till screen. The TakePOS elements stay the same; only their position changes, and each button calls TakePOS's own code. Sales, payments, receipts and stock are recorded exactly as without the module. No table is created and no Dolibarr file is modified.

Can I keep the usual TakePOS layout?

Yes. The “Classic TakePOS” setting keeps the original zones and only changes the colours. And if you disable the module, TakePOS gets its original look back on the next load.

Does it work on a tablet or a phone?

On a tablet, yes, from 900 px wide: the modern till was tested at 1024 × 768. Below 900 px, and on the TakePOS phone screen (phone.php), the layout stays the original one and only the colours change.

My products have pictures: what happens to them?

They keep them. Only products without a picture, which showed a crossed-out camera, become tiles with their name and the colour of their category. You can turn off the “Readable tiles” setting if you do not want them.

What about a bar or a restaurant?

The Bar Restaurant floor plan takes the colours of the look, with each table “Free” or “Occupied”. It keeps the layout of your tables and shows neither the amount nor the time of an occupied table: TakePOS does not provide them. From 20 to 24 under PHP 8, TakePOS opens the plan on floor 0; this is a Dolibarr bug, seen with the module disabled.

Who handles support, and how do updates work?

Support is provided by the person who wrote the module, at support@dolix.fr. Ordering, payment, the invoice and the download are handled by the DoliStore, where new versions are published.
