Retained warranty: you are looking for a constant that no longer exists
The constants quoted on the web for retained warranty were renamed in version 12. The setting now lives in situation invoices.
You want to set up retained warranty in Dolibarr, and you come across constant names to enter in the advanced setup. You enter them: nothing happens. That is normal. These names are leftovers, renamed in version 12, in 2020.
Why the web leads you astray
Dolibarr has been around for a long time and forum answers stay online indefinitely. An answer from 2018 keeps coming up in search engines in 2026, even though the setting it describes has been renamed since. Nobody lied: time has passed.
It is a permanent trap with Dolibarr, and the reflex is worth having: before applying an answer found online, check its date, then check whether the name it quotes still exists in your version.
Where the setting is today
Retained warranty is not a standalone setting: it lives in situation invoices, that is, the mechanism for progress invoices on works. That is where you need to go, in the setup of the Invoices module, and not in the list of constants.
Once situation invoices are enabled and configured, the retention applies within the intended framework, and it appears on the generated PDF documents — which is indeed the goal, since that is the document the client receives.
How this was verified
- Source code of a version 24 read: the migration script that renames the old constant, the situation document template, and the situation invoices administration screen.
- Setup screen opened on a version 24 instance, to confirm that the setting is indeed there, and under which label.
If you work in construction
Situation invoices, retained warranty, progress by work package: these are three subjects on which Dolibarr requires proper configuration before it is usable day to day. Once set up, they run on their own. Badly set up, they produce wrong invoices for months without anything flagging the error. Check them on a complete case before putting them into production.
